I was admitted as an attorney in 2009 and joined Botha du Plessis and Kruger Inc (BDK) where I was employed for a year in Johannesburg as an associate.
During March 2010 I joined Kalagadi Manganese (Pty) Ltd as in-house legal counsel which was by then executing a Manganese Underground Mine Project in Hotazel, Northern Cape Province. I stayed for 6 years with the Company and the mine was fully operational when I left in March 2016.
During April 2016 I joined Sasol SA where I was employed as Senior Legal Advisor: Secunda Operations and Mining where I stayed in Secunda for 5 years and left the Company at the beginning of January 2021 to commence with pupillage at the Johannesburg Bar.
With 11 years I spent at the two mining companies, I have gathered experience in Mining Regulatory in terms of the MHSA & MPRDA. SHE Regulatory in terms of OHSA, NEMA and sectoral legislation. Mine and industrial plants accidents and serious injuries/fatalities investigation and reporting. DMRE mine fatality inquiries and root cause analysis. Mine local/host community stakeholder engagement and dispute resolution. Land use disputes resolution. Employment dispute resolution and chairing/prosecuting in disciplinary hearings. Engineering (FIDIC & NEC) and supply chain contracts negotiation drafting and dispute resolution. Project funding agreements drafting as well as corporate and commercial litigation.
