Keitumetse mongale

I am an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and a member of the North-West Bar Association. I hold BProc and LLB degrees from North-West University, a Master of Commerce in Forensic Accountancy, and a PostGraduate Diploma in Management (Human Resources Management). I also completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Law (cum laude) in Drafting and Interpretation of Contracts at the University of Johannesburg, and a Certificate in Legislative Drafting from the same university.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE

Prior to becoming an Advocate, I served pupilage and joined the National Prosecuting Authority in April 2000 as a prosecutor, where I served until September 2004. In October 2004, I joined Legal Services in the Office of the Premier as an investigator and prosecutor in the Misconduct unit. In 2006, I moved to the Forensic, Fraud and Corruption Unit as an Investigator, a position I held until my resignation in April 2012, when I became a full member of the North-West Bar Association.

During my years with the National Prosecuting Authority and the Office of the Premier, I gained solid experience in criminal law litigation, civil law, general litigation, labour law, disciplinary hearings and commercial law. I developed particular skills in due diligence investigations, drafting legislation, drafting contracts, as well as investigation and prosecution. While at the NPA, I also conducted training and presented on various pieces of legislation, including the Criminal Procedure Act, Sexual Offences Act, Children’s Act, Older Persons Act and Child Justice Act. Since joining the Bar, I have continued to draw on this broad background in my practice.

Between 2016 and 2017, I was involved in the Commission of Inquiry into the Bakgatla ba Kgafela Chieftaincy as a legal representative. In 2018, I was appointed as one of the Commissioners in the Commission of Inquiry into Bahurutshe Ba-Ga Gopane Chieftaincy, and contributed in the final report presented to the Premier. I have also been briefed in several chieftainship dispute matters, representing the Premier in which the Premier’s decisions were taken on review.
